Hebrew Alef-Bet
The table below shows the letters of the Hebrew alef-bet, the letter name, and the sound of the letters in English. There is no standard spelling in English for the letter names.
The following letters have more than one sound: beht, kahf, and peh. The difference in sound is noted by the dot in the middle of the letter. Note the letters sheen and seen: In this instance, the difference in sound is noted by the placement of the dot above the letter. Sheen has the dot on the right, while seen has the dot on the left.
In some cases, the letters have a different form if the letter is at the end of a word: For example, khahf and khahf sofit, or mem and mem sofit (sofit means final).
