Comparing the Order of Books in the
Hebrew Tanakh and Old Testament

The order of books in the Hebrew Tanakh and Christian Old Testament are somewhat different. The first seven books are the same, but after Judges the order changes.

The Hebrew Tanakh is in three divisions: The Torah (the Law, the Pentateuch), the Nebi'im (the Prophets), and the Ketubim (the Writings). The word Tanakh stands for these three divisions:

  • Tav for Torah (the Law, the Pentateuch)
  • Nun for Nebi'im (the Prophets)
  • Kaf Sofit for Ketubim (the Writings)
