Hosni Mubarak:
A Skeleton? A Scared Turtle?

This article first appeared as a Briefing sent out to our subscribers on February 24, 2011. It appears in the digest for the first time, with the complete tables.

On February 11, 2011, it was announced that Muhammad Hosni Sayyid Mubarak had resigned from the presidency of Egypt. Mubarak had served as the longest ruling head of state since Muhammad Ali Pasha (1805–1848). Since his resignation, rumors have swirled regarding the state of his health.

Mubarak and Egypt

BCD ran searches on H. Mubarak, Mubarak and Egypt from Isaiah 14:1 to Isaiah 24:1, specifically looking at codes that touch down in Isaiah 19, as that chapter outlines God's judgment against Egypt. There were two findings for Mubarak in the search area, and both of them resulted in extended ELSs. Of the 10 shortest Egypt codes that touch down in Isaiah 19, four resulted in extended ELSs. There were no findings for H. Mubarak.

These six codes, ranging in length from 14 to 29 letters long, all touch down from verses one through 21 of that chapter, and the codes closely align in content with the surface text of chapter 19.

Mubarak (1)
The heart sank, Mubarak has become a line skeleton.

In a Reuters article dated February 15, 2011, Hosni Mubarak's declining health was the focus, and he has been quoted as saying that he is unwilling to travel for medical care. He wants to die in Egypt. This code may allude to the decline in his health and possible wasting away before he dies.

Another interpretation could be that he has a lot of skeletons in his closet. During his presidency, there has been a great deal of political corruption, and he has benefited from this corruption both politically and financially.

This code is 17 letters long, and touches down in Isaiah 19:3, 13, and 21.

Egypt (10)
It is finished inside him, strike the father of Egypt!

This 14-letter-long code crosses the Mubarak (1) code in verses three and 21. This code might be referring to the end of Mubarak's political life, and be calling him father of Egypt due to the historic length of his presidency.

Mubarak (2)
Mubarak will appear as a scared turtle.

On February 1, 2011, Mubarak rejected demands to step down from the presidency. Just 10 days later, he did so. It is unknown whether this choice was prompted by health issues, or was made in response to the ongoing violence of protestors. Turtles retract into their shell when they are frightened. Has Mubarak retreated like a "scared turtle"?

This 14-letter-long code touches down in Isaiah 19:1, which says "the idols of Egypt [will] tremble" before God and "the hearts of the Egyptians [will] melt within them". (NIV)

Egypt (6)
He deflected his fear, Egypt, and retreated and explored.

Just as the Mubarak (2) code did, this 19-letter-long code touches down in Isaiah 19:1. It also touches down in Isaiah 19:8. If this code refers to Mubarak, then the references to fear and retreat would seem to confirm the previous codes meaning. Here are the two verses it passes through.
Verse 1: An oracle concerning Egypt: See, the LORD rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before him, and the hearts of the Egyptians melt within them.

Verse 8: The fishermen will groan and lament, all who cast hooks into the Nile; those who throw nets on the water will pine away. (NIV)

Egypt (9)
Then Grandfather harnessed the fire and judged Egypt.

This 17-letter code speaks of fire and judgment against Egypt. The context of the surface text that this code touches down in is that God through Israel will bring terror to Egypt.
And the land of Judah will bring terror to the Egyptians; everyone to whom Judah is mentioned will be terrified, because of what the LORD Almighty is planning against them. (Isaiah 19:17, NIV)

Egypt (5)
The garden of his days has weakened,
the aspect he estimated in it was fast.
Egypt, be for her!

Lastly, this 29-letter-long code touches down in Isaiah 19:4.
"I will hand the Egyptians over to the power of a cruel master, and a fierce king will rule over them," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty. (NIV)

Does this code refer to Mubarak's corrupt rule over the last 29 years, or of a ruler yet to come?
