Learning the Hebrew Alphabet |
In Exercise Five, we will review words we learned in Lesson Five and will look at lists of Hebrew names and their meanings. In doing these exercises, cover up the last three columns of each table and just look at the Hebrew words in the left column and try to recognize what each Hebrew word is. If you can't remember what each word is, try saying each Hebrew letter individually and then sound out the word until you recognize it. If you can't remember something, just uncover the corresponding last three columns for that word or words.
Review Lesson Five Vocabulary
*The letter shin has a dot on the right top side of the letter and is pronounced "sh." When the dot is on the top left, it is called a sin and is pronounced "s."
** A bet has a dot in the middle of the letter and is pronounced "b." When the bet does not have a dot, it is called a vet and is pronounced "v."
We have not shown these markings above, but do want you to be aware of them.
Hebrew Names and Their Meanings
The following lists of Hebrew names are given as an exercise in practicing reading Hebrew. We will start with two-letter names, and build from there. For a complete list of the Hebrew Alphabet to use as a reference, see the Hebrew Alef-Bet page. As before, cover up the last three columns of each table and just look at the Hebrew words in the left column. Try to sound out the word to see if you recognize it. Then, uncover the corresponding last three columns for that word or words.
