Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22 Clusters

The remarkable code clusters that pass through the prophetic chapters of Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22 have continued to explode. See our Major Clusters page for links to previous articles.

In Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22, BCD decided to search for the names of those who visited the empty tomb and for phrases about the tomb. Drawn from Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24 and John 20, we came up with the following list of names and phrases to search for.

*The Peter codes are presented in a separate article.

By far, the various spellings of Peter resulted in the largest number of extended ELSs. Of the terms, only Mary Magdalene (9 letters long) and M. Magdalene (6 letters long) did not have any extensions. Additional information regarding some of the spellings that did not result in extensions is given at the end of the article.

A brief explanation of our notation: Codes found in Isaiah will be denoted with an "I" and codes found in Psalms will be denoted with a "P". Codes with more than one spelling will have an "A", "B" or "C" to signify which spelling it is. For example, The Other Mary (P.B1) passes through Psalms 22, and it is the second spelling of the term. The number "1" denotes the shorted skip of that spelling. We searched for the first five shortest skips wherever possible.


In Mark 16:1, we find Salome along with the two Mary's bringing spices to anoint Jesus' body.
"When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body." (NIV 1984)

Though searching for Salome who visited the tomb, these extended codes may be referring to Salome, the daughter of Herodias, found in Matthew 14:1-9 and Mark 6:17-29. Though she is unnamed in those passages, Josephus's Jewish Antiquities gives her name and some detail about her family relations.

Salome (I.1)
And the worth of Salome is crime.

Though her name is not mentioned in the Bible, it is possible that this code may be referring to Salome, the daughter of Herodias, who to please her mother, asked Herod for the head of John the Baptist. (This is not the same Salome that visited the tomb.)

Salome (P.1)
Who chained a cage to the edge of the villa?
Raise Salome, man of mystery!

Again, this code may refer to Salome, the daughter of Herodias. Who chained a cage to the edge of the villa? might refer to John's imprisonment.

Salome (P.2)
My mouth is exhausted, he has retained
Salome's address as a place of destitution.

Though Salome lived as a princess, she was morally bankrupt in pleasing her mother with the death of John the Baptist. It verges on being poetic to think of Salome's address [home] as a place of destitution.

Salome (P.5)
Salome is a swindle in the lines of the present.

The swindle might refer to Herodias's use of Salome as the method of obtaining the death of John the Baptist.

    Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager [steward] of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them [Jesus and the disciples] out of their own means. . . .

    When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. (Luke 8:3 and 24:9-12, NIV 1984)

Joanna, the wife of Cuza (who was the steward of Herod's household), is the same Joanna referred to in Luke 24. Given that the codes for Salome appear to be referring to Salome, the daughter of Herodias, and a member of Herod's household, it is curious that Joanna would also have been a member of that household.

Joanna (I.A1)
Here they are for you from Joanna
a light to the festival of the mirror for him.

Here they are for you from Joanna may be referring to Joanna's generosity, as she was known to help support Jesus and the disciples out of her own means. (Luke 8:3)

Joanna (I.B1)
If you do not find, Joanna,
you will be realizing the foundation.

If you do not find, may be referring to Joanna and the women going to the tomb and not finding Jesus as they expected, however, you will be realizing the foundation, is a bit mysterious. Perhaps it refers to Jesus' resurrection as the foundation of salvation.

Joanna (I.B3)
The proud one has closed Joanna's palm tight.

This code might allude to one of the disciples having a dispute with Joanna over how the funds she gave were being used, just as they took issue with the woman who anointed Jesus with the costly oil before his crucifixion:
    And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste? For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor."

    But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."—Matthew 26:6-13 (NKJV)

Joanna (P.B3)
The Lord has led and will illuminate.
Joanna will exchange from their hand.

The Lord has led and will illuminate might be describing Jesus teaching and providing for the multitudes, and Joanna will exchange from their hand may be referring to Joanna's generosity towards Jesus and the disciples.

Joanna (P.B4)
Experience the charm of Joanna.
Desire what the Lord has forsaken,
go stay with the glory of my crown.

The Scriptures do not say whether or not Joanna was a charming woman, but we certainly know she was generous, and that may be a charming quality in and of itself. Desire what the Lord has forsaken, go stay with the glory of my crown may mean that Jesus humbled Himself, taking the form of a servant, and became obedient unto death, so that mankind might know life everlasting.
    Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.—Philippians 2:5-11 (NIV 1984)


John (P.5)
My mother, to what extent is John a high law for me?

This code brings to mind a possible conversation between Jesus and his mother about the disciple John, as he ultimately entrusted her to him as He hung on the cross.
    Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved [John] standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.—John 19:25-27 (NIV 1984)

The Other Mary

Matthew 28:1, says, "After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb." (NIV 1984) As we noted in the table above, we did not find any extended codes for either Mary Magdalene or M. Magdalene, however, one code for The Other Mary did have an extension. The Other Mary may refer to Mary, The Mother of James, which we also searched for, and the findings for that term will be presented later on in this article.

Know whether they will evacuate
the vineyard in the other Mary.
Your fruit has changed like a sister.

Israel is compared to a vineyard in Psalm 80:8-15 and Isaiah 5:1-7, and fruit is often a reference to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives:
    But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.—Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB)

The Mother of James

In Mark 16:1, we find The Mother of James, "When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body." (NIV 1984) If the mother of James refers to James the apostle, then James was one of the first disciples to follow Jesus. (Matthew 4:21-22, Mark 1:19-20) He was one of the apostles that witnessed the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-9, Mark 9:2-8, Luke 9:28-36), and he is believed to be the first of the apostles to be martyred. (Acts 12:1-2)

The Mother of James (I.1)
Guard the prison that James found.
He will accompany me and alert me
to those wondering: what will I be in him?

This code may refer to the events in Acts 12. James was killed by Herod, and Peter was imprisoned. Peter escaped miraculously by following an angel that visited him. This code could be a command to the angel that assisted Peter in escaping prison. (Acts 12:1-19)

The Mother of James (I.2)
He was not silent, and the beginning
of the mother of James was clarified.

This code may refer to the conception of the mother of James, or to the day she went to the tomb and the angel spoke to the women of whom she was one.

The Mother of James (I.3)
Where is the burning monument
and the people or the mother of James?

When the Romans destroyed the Temple (AD 70), they probably burned it, or monument could refer to the entire city of Jerusalem that the Romans destroyed.

The Mother of James (P.2)
Their appearance has guarded them, Jacob.
Hand me over to my father.

In this code, The Mother of James was the original search term, but during parsing and translation, the letters were parsed differently as part of the phrase, guarded them, Jacob. In this case, the code may be a reference to Jacob disguising himself as his brother Esau in order to obtain Esau's blessing from their father. (Genesis 27)

Empty Tomb

Empty Tomb (I.1)
There are two Godly flames,
and a bitter path and an empty tomb.
Is it his mother?

This code may be speaking of Jesus life and the path to His crucifixion and resurrection. It may also refer to His mother's grief over His crucifixion and death.

Empty Tomb (P.1)
I will permit them (f) an empty tomb.
You will strike the mother with a living god.
Rest, and have the son travel to the father.

I will permit them [feminine gender] an empty tomb may be referring to the women coming and finding the tomb empty. Rest, and have the son travel to the father might be a description of the resurrection of Christ.

Rolled Back Stone

Rolled Back Stone (I.1)
He rolled back a stone,
and rendered them a sign of vigil in him.

He rolled back the stone might refer to the angel who rolled back the stone and who spoke to the women telling them Jesus was risen. A sign of vigil might refer to the women going to the tomb to anoint Jesus' body.

Rolled Back Stone (I.4)
They conspired against me by sorcery.
He rolled back the stone that blocked the living.

Again, He rolled back the stone might refer to the angel who rolled back the stone, and the stone that blocked the living is descriptive of the stone blocking the entrance, which was rolled away to release the risen Christ.

Rolled Back Stone (P.1)
They were not happy and light-hearted,
and their stone within me was rolled back.

They were not happy and light-hearted may describe the grief of the women as they approached the tomb and their concern over finding the stone rolled away and Jesus' body missing.

Stone from Door

Stone from Door (P.1)
The cloud served as pulpit for the mother.
The stone from the door was a nest.
The cloud has stayed for them.

The cloud may refer to Hebrews 12:1
    Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. (NASB, emphasis ours)

The cloud of witnesses referred to is discussed in Hebrews 11. Beginning with Abel, Abraham, the patriarchs and Moses, the faith of these men is described.

Or the cloud may be the one the Israelites followed in the desert.
    By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.—Exodus 13:21 (NIV 1984)

The cloud was the Lord's presence leading them. In this code, the cloud may refer to Jesus and after His resurrection to the Holy Spirit.
